Haarlemmermeer is part of the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area (AMA). There are several economic partnerships between municipalities and provinces in this region. For centuries, the prosperity of this area has been linked to its position as an international business and trade centre. Although, with just over two million inhabitants, AMA is small compared with other world cities, it has a good name and a strong reputation.
The Amsterdamse Innovatie Motor (AIM) encourages innovation in the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area, under the direction of the Amsterdam Economic Board. AIM’s objective is to enhance the innovation climate for companies, knowledge institutions and governments, focusing on five sectors that are promising and reinforce the region’s position: Creative Industry, ICT, Life Sciences, Financial and Commercial Services and Sustainability.
